Location
The château with its large estate is located on the Ile de la Barthelasse, an island in
the midst of the Rhône River, facing the Papal Palace of Avignon. A dyke protects
the property from river floods. The survival of the château over the centuries attests
to the fact that when the Rhone does experience high water, these dykes have always afforded
ample protection. On occasion, however, some repairs have been necessary, as happened after

the millennium flood of 2003.
Ile de la Barthelasse is essentially agricultural due to its rich, alluvial soil. Recently,
city dwellers, attracted by the island's beautiful scenery, have begun to move there.
Because
Château Blanc's property covers roughly ten percent of Ile de la Barthelasse, it will remain
secluded and the owner's privacy is safeguarded.
To the south, a bridge connects the property with Avignon and Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. To the north,
a road leads to another bridge connecting the Ile de la Barthelasse to Ile de la Motte and Sauveterre.
It takes less than ten minutes to drive to the two nearest towns (Avignon and Villeneuve) and no more than
fifteen minutes to reach the TGV train station (9 km/5 miles). By TGV, Château Blanc is two hours and forty
minutes away from Paris and a little more than three hours from the Roissy - Charles de Gaulle airport.
The entrance to the A7 highway and the Avignon airport is 15 km (9 miles) away. The Marseilles' international
airport is a one-hour drive and the Nice airport is less than two and a half hours.
The cities of Avignon and Orange with their architectural treasures and music and theater festivals are
within ten and thirty minutes, respectively. Two golf courses, and eight one-star restaurants
(Avignon itself has three) are a half an hour away. There are wonderful places to visit nearby,
including the Pont du Gard, Uzès, St. Rémy-de-Provence, and Isle-sur-la- Sorgue with its 200 antique dealers.
A little further, but still less than an hour's drive are three two-star restaurants, a host of additional one-stars,
the hill towns of the Alpilles and Luberon, Carpentras and Mont Ventoux, Arles, Nîmes, and Aix-en-Provence.
All these destinations are found in the midst of some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
